Thanks beaker98 and AngelSeven! Leaning towards the Dogbane beetle rather than the Rose Chafer because of that little triangle piece between the upper wing cases on the Chafer is missing here.
Here's a huge list of long-horned beetles in Texas: http://texasento.net/TXBycidPix.html
Reminds me of longhorn beetles but I can't find anything that says you'd have them in your area. :(
What a beauty! Looks like a female (?) if I'm correct on the ID. Do you get Dobson flies in your area? They're even bigger! O.O
Thank you ForestDragon! I do believe you are right.
Grace, no. No burrs. At all. Can't tell your location from the app, but maybe your cats have been walking through cleavers?
Thanks James and Machi! Sure seems like the Phaon. Will try to get a shot of the underside of the wings today to help nail it down.
Oooh! Reminds me of the ones I see in my house but mine are very pale. (maybe from lack of sun ;) ) Could it be a Long-jawed Orb Weaver? Tetragnatha...?
LaudrenZarate, I don't remember for sure. I believe it was empty tho. So nothing in it. Just thin brown walls all the way down.
