"Banana Slug" loosely refers to three species of slug. All similar, with slightly different colors, length, color pattern.
Interesting fact: These suckers will excrete a thick mucus when in danger from their skin. The mucus has numbing properties (a problem for predators when they are trying to shallow one of these guys), and if you gently stroke the back of a banana slug, then touch the resultant slime to your tongue, you can experience this numbing effect (similar sensation to Orajel).
Very nice. These are common in healthy forest in the area.
Also known as the Oregon Pine, this is the state tree. Its on the license plate too.
Were the balls spikey, with green and red colors? This could be a Strawberry Tree, also known as the Apple of Cain, Arbutus Unedo. It is not native, but not uncommon in the Portland area.
Interesting. By the leaves, it appears to be an oak tree. Those yellow balls on the leaves may be some sort of parasite.
Not sure why there is no name tagged with this. It is Indian Pipe. A rare find and an awesome photo! Good job!
latin name is polystichum munitum, I believe. nice photo
I believe this is Spanish Thistle. It is an invasive weed, and has some unpleasant barbs to boot.
