The head region appears transparent. Is it a discarded cicada shell?
These guys are in a butterfly breeding enclosure at the Melbourne zoo.

This is a member of the Skink family (Scincidae). As there are in the vicinity of 150 species in Australia it is difficult to be more precise. Probably a memmber of the genus Egernia.
I think it was an apple.
