These are a different herd but are similar horse. Misty of Chincoteague is a book about a wild horse there. Those horses are driven each year from one island to another.
We vacationed at Carova NC where you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to your house and you wake up with horses grazing in your front yard!
The horses roam free and they do breed. It is believed they are related to Spanish Mustangs. They are small horses at about 14 hands.
