Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel

Callospermophilus lateralis

Description:

Rule of thumb. If it looks like a Chipmunk but has no stripes on face then it is a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel. Yes they look like a Chipmunk and can be confused at first glance with their black and gray stripes on the back. But these are larger and not as quick. Tails are also are shorter and thinner.

Habitat:

Found mostly on the ground in higher elevations and will burrow.
