Stiff Club Moss

Description:

Clubmosses are not mosses. They are spore-producing vascular plants with a life-cycle similar to ferns. The Stiff Club Moss ranges from Virginia into Canada. A narrow yellowish cone tops most branches, which sticks up stiffly (6 inches) from a wiry horizontal stem. Growth renews annually at tip, leaving a constriction between evergreen leaves at each branch.
