This photo was taken on the beach on the east end of Long Island NY (There is also, surprisingly, a native cactus growing in the same area. The temperature when I took this photo today was about 48 degrees. I did try to search the web but wasn't sure where to begin looking.

To me it looks like a cactus flower. :)
