Eastern Box Turtle

Description:

Often seen crossing roads in its habitat, this terrestrial turtle has orange and black markings on the upper body and light orange to yellow on the underside. This turtle has a hinged lower shell in front and withdraw it's head in the shell and close the opening with the lower shell.

Habitat:

Woodlands, meadows and near ponds

Notes:

The orange on this specimen is unusually intense and beautiful.
