Ceratotherium simum cottoni
Updated: Sadly Angaligu (male) passed away on 12/14/14 due tools age. :( The one standing is the male and the other is the female. They're both in their mid-40's where this species usually lives from 25-30 years! Please see notes below.
San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The northern white rhino (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) formerly ranged over parts of northwestern Uganda, southern Chad, southern South Sudan, the eastern part of Central African Republic, and northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As of the date of this spotting, these are two of only 6 left in the world. These are the only two found in the Western Hemisphere. They've been slaughtered for their horns that fetch about $30,000 per kilogram. Aka Northern Square-lipped Rhinoceros

Very sad, it would be fantastic if they could bring the species back. I can't believe people would slaughter these beautiful creatures!
Thank you for the comment, venusflytrap2000. We're all hoping for that!
awesome spotting cindy, read the blog sad story, but agree with deziree, maybe the rhinos can bring the species back to life...
Thank you for a great spot Cindy! Lets hope the other remaining four can bring this specie back to life!!
Thank you! Such a devastating loss of these Rhinos in the wild. I feel honored to see a couple live specimens in person but sadly most will not.
Wonderful blog!
Congrats Cindy, your spotting has been used to illustrate our World Rhino Day blog feature http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/6196453...

Hi Cindy, very sad indeed. Thank you for the notes and the amazing pictures. Very strange looking horn on the Rhino on the left in pic 1!
Another spot that you may add to the Rhino mission!

Yes, we're very lucky to live nearby. The wildfires were very scary for everyone but especially this park! Evacuating animals isn't easy, especially this quantity, size and rarity!
I love this park. It is right where you live isn't it?This park also survived the fire in Escondindo a few years ago. Everything was charred by the fire!
