tero comun

Vanellus chilensis

Description:

This is a baby of Vanellus chilensis, or "tero" as we call it in argentina. when a predator comes near to the nest, the fathers distract it with fly-bys and loud screaming, while the baby hides between de grass, making it almost impossible to find.

Habitat:

lakes, open grasslands

Notes:

it's a common specie in argentina, also, a good pet. it seems dangerous because they turn almost crazy if you get near to the nest, but it's only noise, they never attack people. they have a lot of particular signs. the most known, is the "headbang" they do.
