Description:

Stiffly upright, tough, aromatic, hairy perennial, 8 - 40 in high. Leaves are ferny, forming clumps or colonies.

Habitat:

Sun to dappled shade. Various soils.

Notes:

Common name is said to come fromAchilles who was reputed to have used it to staunch the bleeding wounds of his soldiers. Its specific name means 'a thousand leaves', referring to it's ferny foliage. Was a valued medicinal herb in past.
