Phalacrocorax auritus albociliatus
I have seen so many double crested cormorants in the last year,but never really did understand why they were called double crested. I never really saw any crests. Looks like the crests are more prominent in the breeding season. if you look carefully at this cormorant it has a crest on each side of it's head ,almost like a pair of horns.. This cormorant is smaller than the ones I see usually at this pond
Emma, according to Clements the sub-species "albociliatus" is the only one on the pacific side south of Alaska and west of Utah so it would seem to fit.

as you spotted it on the pacific coast, and as it is the smallest you have seen, I would guess this is Phalacrocorax auritus albociliatus.

Thank you Xia. While i think the same ,there are 5 sub species. This on eseem sto be smaller than the ones I see normally.
