Dipsacus laciniatus
An immensely tall plant, this one is probably six or seven feet tall. Small white flowers bloom in rings around the cone heads, starting with one ring in the middle, then splitting and moving towards the top and bottom. Base leaves are over a foot long, and look serrated. The leaves form cups where they attach to the stem, and these cups fill with water when it rains. The stem is over an inch thick at the bottom. Considered a noxious weed here.
open field, wet areas

No problem. Despite being a noxious week, I find teasel to be a really neat plant.
