Coccinella sepapunctata
Head and thorax black with yellowish or white markings on margins, legs and undersides black.
Spotted on Mexican feather-grass in a garden filled with numerous flowering plants and a lot of insects.
During the Middle Ages, these beetles rid grapevines of insect pests, and in appreciation were dedicated to "Our Lady," hence their common name. In Britain they are called ladybird beetles, in the U.S., usually ladybug.
