Swamp rabbit

Description:

Adult rabbit with cinnamon-colored fur around eye. Rufous fir at nape and black, white, gray fur on back. Large mobile ears and black eyes.

Habitat:

Bottomland hardwood forest in Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

Notes:

I scared the rabbit out of form in tangled vines. He darted into thick cover. Later when I came back the rabbit had emerged from the cover and was grooming ears. The rabbit then crouched in the woods.
