Snake in Missouri near Kansas City
Wooded trail near river
While the body pattern is similar to the western fox snake, the prairie kingsnake has a wider distribution throughout the state (the fox snake is only known from a few counties on the northern edge of the state), and the kingsnake has a stripe from the eye to the corner of the mouth, while the fox snake does not.
