American Cancer Root

Habitat:

Next to trail leading to Blue Hole Falls. Mostly mountain forest of oak trees.

Notes:

A perennial, non-photosynthesizing, parasitic plant. Native but not endemic to North America and when blooming, resembles a pine cone or cob of corn growing from the roots of mostly oak and beech trees. Also known as squaw root and bear corn. Reported to have some medical properties but testing shows no properties in the treatment of cancer.
