Winged Seed

Description:

Also known as helicopter seed by the local children. These Dipterocarp tree seeds will fall down to the grown by spinning with their "wings" to create air friction to slow down the fall. Possibly Shorea agamii, S. rubra, S. johorensis, S. smithiana, S. parvistipulata or S. mecistopteryx.

Habitat:

Only in rainforests such as here in Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, Sandakan, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 1000 m diameter. My 20th plant spotting, giving me a plant specialist patch.
