Poison ivy/oak

Taxicodendron radicans

Description:

A shrub or climbing vine with shiny, green "leaflets of three.". Flowers, greenish white inconspicuous clusters.

Habitat:

Often along woodland edges, but can be found in full sun where it is shrubby, or in shade, climbing a tree. It climbs by tiny roots that stick to tree bark, posts, etc.

Notes:

Contains toxicodendrol, a poisonous oil that produces blisters and itching in many individuals, but it is good for wildlife. Deer like its leaves, and many birds eat its berries. It is the host plant to the dusky-blue groundstreak butterfly.
