Pond in SF Botanical garden.
Those are Mosquitofish. What you saw in the pond is Carp and Koi. I visit the Gardens every few months. This weekend I was there and the Carp and Koi you can see the backs of them when the swim near the surface.
They get their name not by what they look like but what they do. They are placed in ponds, garden fountains etc to cut down population of mosquitos.
Sorry but yes, they were far away and yet I saw them clearly. My husband too.Their size was as big as a trout. No way it can be guppies, they are tiny compared to what we saw. Thanks anyway.
Marta, are you sure about the size? If so, try to ask the personnel of the botanical garden for the ID. I myself have not seen a fish that big and looks like this one.
But they were quite big, I would say at least 20 to 30 cm..ae guppies that big?
Nice shot. Looks like female guppies. Males are smaller and more colorful. Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guppy
