Description:

a knee-high forb with pale, glaucous leaves, due to a covering of dense white hairs, and purplish stems; each inflorescence is thistle-like with sharply pointed papery bracts, which are purple when in bud and which surround the head of tiny, pale pink flowers with their emergent cream coloured stamens; the heads dry to brown spiny balls which are long-lasting
