Sarcophaginae sp.

Description:

Sarcophaginae are medium sized flies that are blackish with gray thoracic stripes and a checker board pattern on the abdomen. Generally only males of this subfamily can be identified to species, and then only by examination of dissected genitalia. They mostly feed on small carrion including insects, snails & small vertebrates.

Habitat:

Worldwide. A variety of habitats.

Notes:

Observed feeding on earthworm remains.
