Clasping Venus's Looking-Glass

Triodanis pefoliata

Description:

Upright to sprawling, hairy annual to 2 ft. Stem solitary; often branching from base, angled. Flower one to several in a cluster, blue to blue-violet with 5 petals. Leaves alternate, the blade roundish, deeply notched at base and clasping stem or almost so,the margins with shallowly rounded teeth.

Habitat:

Spotted on a dry hillside in a sunny opening in the woods.

Notes:

The Cherokee steeped the roots of Venus's looking glass along with parts of other plants and drank the infusion for indigestion.
