Helix pomatia
Large, edible, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Helicidae. It is a European species. The shell is creamy white to light brownish, often with indistinct brown colour bands. The shell has 5–6 whorls. The aperture is large. The apertural margin is white and slightly reflected in adult snails. The umbilicus is narrow and partly covered by the reflected columellar margin. The width of the shell is 30–50 mm. The height of the shell is 30–45 mm
Native to south-eastern and central Europe
Specially protected in Germany by the "Bundesartenschutzverordnung"

When it comes to Burgundy, I prefer the wine rather to the snails...
Eh!eh!eh!i eat snail's once in Lisbon,where is very traditional,long time ago,it's a bit disgusting :) to much cartilagine texture,the source is very spicy but the snail is to hard comparing with shellfish.
