This was pure luck. We've had a wonderful warm summer on the coast and ate lunch (our sit down meal)on the deck when he arrived. I went inside, snagged the camera and miraculously he hadn't left

Great job! patience is certainly required with butterflies....so many "almost" butterfly photos for me!
