large, colorful dragonfly
tropical forest near water
I spotted this in Sai Yok National Park.
I said this is great spotting Dan... This is declared rare...Precious for Project Noah...!!
Thanks bayucca, that is a great link but I don't know where to start. It's very cool as the blogger takes a lot of his pics in Nam Nao National Park, one of my favorite in Thailand.
Don't ask me about dragonflies! No IDea, but I have another link for your. Unfortuntely a blog, so you need first an ID of the family and genus to check.

Which one do you think it is from the link bayucca? It just shows the whole page.
Pachydiplax longipennis is an US species and not found in Thailand. Take a look at this one:

The black tail might be important for screening.
Do you have any links Ashish? Most of the images I see of it are from above and can't see the colors on the body.
Check... this find in that area... Emerald-banded Skimmer (Cratilla lineata)
Thanks for the suggestion Ashish but I don't think it's that. The blue dasher doesn't appear to have any blue color in the body like this spotting and the range doesn't match.
