Description:

mottled gray, beige and cream-colored lizard, about 6 inches/15 cm long, with distinct but low-contrast banding on the tail

Habitat:

barren alluvial fan above low desert low desert

Notes:

spotted skittered along through loose scree in Mosaic Canyon in Death Valley National Park; posted picture is cropped from a larger fully zoomed-in image in which lizard is a small, unremarkable feature in the center. It was not possible to approach it closely to get a better image without it running off
