Description:

Large pale yellow flower above the water at the Library pond. Among the first blooms there this year. Leaves will lift higher with time. Has a center that almost looks like cork.

Habitat:

Ponds, slow moving rivers.

Beautiful plant! This is indeed a lotus (Family Nelumbonaceae) but the similar looking water "lily" is (are) in a different family (Nymphaeaceae), so even though it is sometimes called a lotus lily it is probably better to not lump the names to avoid confusion.
