These are the marine/brackish(in this case) variety. Common names do vary greatly especially for species with wide distribution. That's the reason that the scientific name is so important for identification. I find it interesting too; it's a little cultural diversity lesson along with the science. Aunt Nance, are these marine/brackish water fish? We have a species here we call Sheephead (freshwater drum, Aplodinotus grunniens). While there is no obvious relation between the two, I find it interesting that in different areas of the country, humans have used a very common name for the two separate species.
