Fritillaria lanceolata
Dark purple-brown flowers mottled with yellow speckles.
Pacific Northwest rain forest. On southern facing bluffs overlooking Sumas Prairie. A fairly dry area at the edge of the forest with undergrowth of Salal and Oregon grape but this narrow area has wild Strawberry, Mock orange and Pearly everlasting.
The only other Chocolate Lilies I have found were on Elk Mountain - also in the Fraser Valley.

Most of the flowers were past their prime but this one was pretty good!
I found some beautiful Chocolate Lilies on the east coast of Saturna Island, just south of Boat Pass. I will post the pics soon.
Absolutely beautiful!
