Chocolate Lily

Fritillaria lanceolata

Description:

Dark purple-brown flowers mottled with yellow speckles.

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest rain forest. On southern facing bluffs overlooking Sumas Prairie. A fairly dry area at the edge of the forest with undergrowth of Salal and Oregon grape but this narrow area has wild Strawberry, Mock orange and Pearly everlasting.

Notes:

The only other Chocolate Lilies I have found were on Elk Mountain - also in the Fraser Valley.

I found some beautiful Chocolate Lilies on the east coast of Saturna Island, just south of Boat Pass. I will post the pics soon.
