Smooth Limpet

Cellana tramoserica

Description:

An aquatic gastropod mollusc with an oval shaped conical shell. The shell has coloured ridges and lines radiating from the apex. the striking feature of this limpet is the orange margin. Seen attached to rocks with barnacles.

Habitat:

Tidal zone on rocks at the mouth of the Powlett River in Victoria. This limpet is native to Australia

Notes:

It feeds on microalgae and forages on rocks where sometimes it is known to crush baby barnacles by running them over !
