Aedes vexans
Small fly about .3 cm in length. Legs are banded in black and white. One of our more common biting species of mosquito here in Minnesota.
Usually found in greatest numbers around ponds and other wet areas, but they can fly some distance to upland areas are common throughout Minnesota and the US Midwest.

Eric, I really have no idea what your mosquito is and there seems to be a dearth of information on the Internet about mosquitoes for that area, but really didn't find anything. There were a couple of photos of mosquitoes that were largely dark with the white spots, but the pattern didn't look right and I'm not sure how much variation within a species there is. Also, the sources weren't as credible as a university or government site. I'm surprised there isn't more work on mosquitoes in that area!

Good for you Gordon. Had to endure the bites on my older spot - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/721.... Have yet to identify it though. Any ideas? :-)
