Anax parthenope

Description:

Very similar to Anax imperator (Emperor dragonfly) when seen on the wing, but smaller and less colourful. Holds its abdomen straight. Has a blue saddle at S2 and S3 which can be seen in flight which is in contrast to the rest of the abdomen which is brown. There is a yellow rin at the base of S2. The eyes are green.

Habitat:

Ponds, lakes and other bodies of still water.

Thanks, Cindy. I was thinking Anax species - but couldn't quite nail the exact one. Will take a look at the lesser emperor. :)

Check out the Lesser Emperor - Anax parthenope. There's some variation in colors but seem to fit your spotting.
