Mammallaria
This is a small cactus with a large yellow bloom in the spring. If it wasn't for the flower, you would never notice the cactus. There are a lot of these cactus within a 100 sq yard area near the entrance to area 71 at the LBJ Grasslands.
Dry and hot with poor soil.
