Hoverfly

Eristalinae sp.

Description:

This Hoverfly is a frequent visitor to the daisy and other Asteracea in the garden. It was quickly moving over the disc centers of the last of the blooming daisies. It just chased the Spotted Flower Buprestid away.

Habitat:

The garden is about half an acre of native plants specifically planted for wildlife. The main water source is a pond that is filtered by two gravel streams. It is on a peninsula by Lake Lewisville, TX.

Notes:

Eristalinae (or Milesiinae) is one of the 3 subfamilies of the fly family Syrphidae, or hoverflies.
