Barn swallow

Hirundo rustica

Description:

A small passerine bird with long deeply forked tail. Upper parts are a deep blue with a russet lower face. Insectivorous.

Habitat:

Nest under bridges, in barns, under the eaves of houses and other structures

Notes:

This is the first year this pair has nested under the porch of my house. Curiously, they constructed their nest on top of a camera trap we have there to capture images of wild and domestic mammals that tear into our garbage. This nest contains 4 young.
