Bryozoan

Description:

I found this attached to a fallen tree near shore. There was a large colony covering almost every part of the fallen tree. It was gray on the outside and dark brown on the inside. I was able to break a chunk off with my paddle. It was not gelatinous. It had more of the consistency of a mushroom.

Habitat:

It was found in a shallow but very large pond with lots of plant life covering a majority of the water. Almost a swamp.
