Pseudechis porphyriacus
This red bellied black snake was sunning itself in a dry creek bed. I noticed this snake as I was expecting to see one in this kind of habitat. It watched with steely eyes to see who would move first. It was me. Probably about average, 1.5m or a little longer.
River flats. Redgum forest.

The redgums are black at the base and would logically favor black cicadas over our green ones. No beetles here, Mark, except for numerous black piedish beetles.
Black cicadas and black snakes... some Murray River fashion statement.
