Mallard Hen with Ducklings

Anas platyrhynchos

Description:

Mottled browns on the upper body with a tan breast and lower body. This is a medium sized duck.

Habitat:

From bodies of water as small as a roadside ditch to large sized bodies of water like Lake Michigan, these birds can be found almost anywhere. This is the second year in a row I've had mallards walking through my yard along a very busy city street. Fortunately traffic always stops and lets them cross the road.

Notes:

This bird is becoming more and more urban friendly as time goes on. Those birds in the city or parks will tolerate close approach for great pictures.
