Robber Fly

Asilidae

Description:

This is a robber fly, but I am not sure of the specific species. Dark grayish body color. Solid black tail with gray circular stripes. Large black eyes set to the side, fuzzy face, extended snout. Wings positioned straight back at rest.

Habitat:

Found crawling along a dirt/mud trail adjacent to a waterway.

Notes:

I know this specimen is in the robber fly family - any help on a specific species would be appreciated. Canal Wildlife Management Are, Chesapeake City, Md
