Your katydid is not yet an adult and has only wing buds. They go through five growth stages, each instars looks rather similar except in size. Only during the final molt do they develop wings and sexual organs such as ovipositor if female.
Thanks Martin! I learned something very interesting from that! But.... this guy did not have long wings like a katydid - they were more like stubs - I have uploaded another photo of his back, to show that.
