Upupa epops
The hoopoe is quite a large bird. In some traditions it is considered as the king of the birds because of the crest it can raise on its head.
It is quite frequent in my leafy neighbourhood in South Cairo, Maadi. You can see it searching for insects in the grass.
This individual was perching on a pipe on the building opposite mine. It flew right against the closed window of my kitchen, maybe it was searching for some insects in the recess holding the pane.
