Lebeda cognata
Lebeda cognata - a HUGE caterpillar resting on a leaf. At 110 mm in length, it is extremely massive compared to other species. It is pale greyish brown in color to make itself looks like a heap of dried vegetation waste. The hairs at its sides also helps to blend it in its environment by breaking its shape outline. The 2 black pom poms or black "hairs" on top of the head act as a defense mechanism similar to Osmeterium, when threatened, those hairs will spread out - notice the slight changes on them between the 2nd and 3rd photo. >>>Map accuracy : 200m diameter. A HUGE thanks to my sister who found this. I was only focusing on spotting tiny spiders and insects that I missed this large caterpillar! I hope this is the largest insect larva in the Malaysian or Bornean records!
