Senna sp.
A wonderful evergreen bush or tree for a butterfly garden. An understory tree that reaches 8-10 ft high. Likes moist soil. Host plant for sulfur butterfly. Grows to a mature tree from seed in about 3 years. Very shallow root system requiring support against strong winds. Produces long bean pods which fall to the ground starting new seedlings. Can be mildly pruned to maintain as a bush. Relatively short lived tree. Often dies about 7-8 years in Texas. Seedlings can be easily moved around the yard, or replace the parent plant when needed.
Butterfly garden, prefers part sun/part shade.
