This is by the leaf beetle Paropsides.
I can see some similarities with your egg cluster.
I am slightly more confident with this suggestion.

I agree, Martin, it looks like a chocolate candy! And yes, it could very well be hemipteran. I think I'll have to go back there to find out. I just hope they are still where I found them, I bet that other bugs may also think they are tasteful...
