Iconic butterfly of N America that migrates across the continent. Numbers have decreased dramatically in recent years due to pesticides, herbicides and other habitat destruction. With widespread efforts of replanting milkweeds and reduced use of pesticides in home gardens and "monarch waystations" they seem to be making a comeback

Habitat:

Edge of Eagle lake,, an alkali lake in the California High desert near reno Nv

Notes:

Females have wider veinging and a lack of spot on the hindwing vein
