Red Scorpion

Description:

Photo take outside home big scorpion about 14 cm long dark red color local name it red scorpion. The sting is very painful but not lethal. common in the Yucatan Peninsula. This family consists of 8 genera and 76 species. They are closly related to the Scorpionidae, but can be seperated from these by the presence of a subaculear spine on the telson (the Scorpionids lack this feature).

Habitat:

Diplocentrids are located in North America (Mexico, Southwestern USA Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua) and South America (Colombia, Venezuela), Caribbean (Greater & Lesser Antilles), Asia (Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen). We've been talking about scorpions all week at our Summer Program for students. The kids were dying to see a live one on our desert adventure...not me! In fact, I've never seen one in the wild here in Egypt. I prefer to see them in pictures so thanks for sharing. :-)
