Oriental Flower Beetle

Protaetia orientalis

Description:

Shiny dark brown beetle ~ 20 mm long and 10 mm wide with small irregularly distributed light yellow markings.

Habitat:

Suburban neighborhood on an insular tropical upland plateau.

Notes:

Spotted distressed, but not yet dead, in my back yard--it could still crawl when disturbed.

Thanks for the ID bayucca. I agree and have edited the spotting accordingly. This species is a pest and has been trapped both to the north and to the south of my location. Also: I think I now know what's been munching on the leaves of my Wiliwili tree (Erythrina sandwicensis).

Scarabaeidae, Cetoniinae, Protaetia sp. and most probably the introduced Protaetia orientalis.
