Good link - yes, the variations do make it difficult. I have so many in my own folders that I cannot find ID's for. Many I suspect are local variations.
What I meant was that body shape is the same no matter the pattern, but the pattern on this particular one is consistent with the more heavily patterned ones.
Forest - I checked out bugguide, all 320 pages - that is a lot of ladybugs! Nothing came as close as your suggestion. Of the many pages of axyridis, there were a couple that were quite close.

Harmonia axyridis is a bit of a stretch. Try terminus punctum.
