Dyplolabia afzelii

Description:

This is a script lichen with elongated apothecia. The apothecia have narrow slit openings (lirellae). The apothecium is a fungal reproductive structure in which the fungus produces spores. In script lichens, the thallus is very thin and grows within the outer bark tissues of the tree.

Habitat:

Spotted on a Southern Magnolia tree bark.
